A Bridge Between Cultures

The final 2025 events promoting the Russian language were held in Bahrain.
The events as part of the project “Complex of cultural actions abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language” took place from December 14 to 15.
In Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, lectures were delivered by Lyudmila Agapkina, PhD (Education), Associate Professor in the Department of Russian Studies, Ethno-Oriented Pedagogy, and Digital Didactics at the Institute of the Russian Language of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba.
“Undoubtedly, this project is very important, as it gives people abroad the opportunity to become acquainted with Russian culture, take an interest in the Russian language, and learn about Russian traditions. Of course, it’s better to see something once than to hear about it a hundred times. By attending our Russian-language events, children, school students, university students, and adults take their first step toward understanding Russia’s rich cultural heritage. This year we launched the project in North Korea (DPRK). The school students and university students who came to the Russian language classes impressed us with their discipline, their thoughtful attention to the nuances of Russian grammar, and their strong desire to absorb and learn about Russian culture. The project, which concluded in Bahrain, became a vivid example of how language can serve as a true bridge between cultures. Participants didn’t just listen to the lectures – they actively engaged in dialogue, asked questions, shared their impressions, and expressed a sincere desire to continue learning Russian and to maintain cultural ties with Russia.”
Lyudmila Agapkina said.
On December 14 at Gulf University for students and on December 15 at Qalat Bahrain for an adult audience, an introductory lesson “Hello, Russia!” was presented for beginners studying the Russian language, and for students with a basic knowledge of Russian, Lyudmila Agapkina on December 14 conducted a lecture “Motion Verbs: ‘Let's Move Forward!’”. During the sessions, participants were able to speak with the instructor, better understand and sense the structure of speech, and try forming simple phrases in Russian.
In addition, at the Qalat Bahrain museum, a photo exhibition titled "Many Faces of Russia" was presented.
The project "Complex of cultural actions abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language" is being carried out to enhance interest in studying the Russian language and culture of Russia. The project's events have already taken place in Tanzania, Myanmar, Venezuela, Morocco, Brazil, Laos, and Oman; and its geography continues to expand annually. In 2025 the project was presented in North Korea, Djibouti, Turkmenistan, Nicaragua, and Bahrain.
