In Nicaragua, events were held aimed at promoting the Russian language

In the Republic of Nicaragua, the events within the framework of the project "Complex of cultural actions abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language" concluded on December 12 at the Ruben Dario National Theatre with a gala concert featuring the Youth Orchestra named after Ruben Dario and Russian soloists.
The project's events were attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Nicaragua, Mikhail Ledenev. “Today we mark a special date – the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the law establishing the Day of Friendship between Russia and Nicaragua,” Mikhail Ledenev noted. "81 years ago, on this day, diplomatic relations between our countries were officially established. Our friendship is at the heart of our diplomacy. And our culture is the product of human emotions. Now we will have the opportunity to enjoy the works of winners of various international competitions: the Tchaikovsky Competition, the Rachmaninoff Competition, the All-Russian Music Competition, Bolshoi Theatre soloists, and outstanding musicians.”
A guest of the final concert was Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua for cooperation with the Russian Federation and Presidential Advisor on investment, trade, and international cooperation.
"This evening marks a new chapter in cultural cooperation between Nicaragua and Russia. We welcome the participation of our Youth Symphony Orchestra along with outstanding Russian artists who shared their experience and education with our people. We thank the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for organizing this series of cultural and educational events in support of promoting the Russian language and culture – events that have become a true cultural bridge, bringing us even closer together,” Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo said.
The concert featured leading Russian musicians: winner of the I International Pianist, Composers, and Conductors Competition named after S.V. Rachmaninov Filipp Selivanov (conducting), soloist of the opera troupe of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia Vladislav Chizhikov (baritone), winner of the XVII International Competition named after P.I. Tchaikovsky Polina Shabunina (soprano), winner of the IV All-Russian Music Competition Mikhail Usov (violin), winner of the XVII International Competition named after P.I. Tchaikovsky Ivan Sendetskiy (cello), winner of the III All-Russian Music Competition and the XVII International Competition named after P.I. Tchaikovsky Stanislav Korchagin (piano).
“Today is truly a significant date – December 12, the anniversary of the establishment of relations between our countries. That’s why we are presenting a Russian program here in Nicaragua with a Nicaraguan orchestra,” Filipp Selivanov shared. “It is a great honor for me to represent our country. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and ROSCONCERT, thanks to whom this tour became possible. Countries and peoples should be friends – they should exchange cultural experience.”
The evening's program included compositions by Russian composers: Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Alexander Borodin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Reinhold Glière, and others. The evening concluded with the Nicaraguan Rhapsody by contemporary composer Patricio Molina.
Earlier, on December 11, master classes for Nicaraguan musicians were held at the Ruben Dario National Theatre, the National Palace of Culture, and the Nicaraguan Institute of Lyric Singing “Incanto,” led by Vladislav Chizhov, Polina Shabunina, and Ivan Sendetskiy.
Also, from December 9–12, Russian language lectures were held in schools and higher education institutions. The events took place in Managua, the capital of the Republic of Nicaragua, and in Matagalpa – a city located on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Maria Lontskaya, Senior Lecturer of the Russian Language Department No. 1 at the Institute of the Russian Language of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba, and Angelina Pshenichnikova, Assistant Lecturer of the Russian Language Department No. 1, delivered lectures for students of various Russian proficiency levels on the topics “Russian Today,” “Welcome to Russia,” and “New Year in Russia,” and also held a workshop titled “Writing a Letter to Ded Moroz and Decorating the Christmas Tree.” Additionally, lectures on the topic "Jurisprudence" were held at the educational center (branch) of the Siberian Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Managua.
Also, on December 11, the photo exhibition “Many Faces of Russia” opened in the foyer of the Ruben Dario National Theatre, giving visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the diversity and beauty of Russia’s regions. Each image is not just a picture, but a whole story reflecting the richness of our country’s cultural heritage, architectural masterpieces, and natural landscapes. The exhibition will be on display in the theatre foyer until the end of December.
The project “Complex of cultural actions abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language" is being carried out to increase interest in learning Russian and Russian culture. The project's events have already taken place in Tanzania, Myanmar, Venezuela, Morocco, Brazil, Laos, and Oman; and its geography continues to expand annually. In 2025 the project was presented in North Korea, Djibouti, Turkmenistan, Nicaragua, and Bahrain.
